Rug repair job in Woodmere NY
A good rug can last for generations. But even the best ones start to wear down at the ends. The fringe gets loose, the knots come undone, and before you know it the whole edge is falling apart.
That is exactly what we saw on this job here in Woodmere. In the attached photos, you can see how the corner of this rug got all tangled up. The wool was bunched into a big knot of red, blue, and pink yarn. The foundation threads were pulling loose too. If you leave a rug like this, the damage keeps spreading into the body of the rug.
The photos also show how we start the repair. We laid the rug flat on the work table and pinned the edge straight. Those little pins hold everything in place while we work. We trimmed off the loose bits with our scissors and got the edge ready for reweaving.
You can also see the real hand work. Those long white threads are the warp threads, the base of the rug. We restrung them by hand, one at a time. Then we reweave new knots into the gaps to match the old pattern. This is slow work and there is no shortcut for it. You cant fix a rug like this with glue or tape.
